801 S. Wells – Chicago, IL
Built in 1915 and designed by Daniel Burnham, this National Historic Register building in the middle of Chicago’s Printers’ Row in the downtown South Loop deserved a new life. As a pioneer in loft redevelopment in Chicago, our company transformed the building into one of the earliest to utilize the national historic tax credits designed to help revitalize historic buildings. Heavy printing equipment required a building with strong load bearing characteristics and generously sized windows – – and an ideal adaptive reuse of the building. The renovation maintained the building’s distinctive vintage character. The building has just over 100 units and on-site fitness facility and parking. Initially the building was rental. After the holding period for tax credits the building was converted to condominiums.
