Melissa C. Brandrup, AIA, CNU-A, LEED-AP, is an Associate with Building Solutions.

As a licensed architect registered in two states, and 13 years of experience as a practicing architect and planner she compliments the Building Solutions Team. As a relatively new resident to El Paso, in the last three years she has seen the changes in the community development patterns. With a background of architecture she has focused on new urbanist master planning projects in the Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and South Florida. In recent years she has been an architect and planner as part of a design team working on bringing these new urbanist ideas to military master planning projects in Washington State and Iwakuni, Japan. Most re- cently this design team won the American Planning Association – Federal Planning Division Best Sustainable Neighborhood Award in both 2008 and 2009 for these two projects. Having working closely with develop- ment companies in executing various planning studies, proformas, and housing typologies, she eagerly brings that knowledge to development projects in El Paso.

Ms. Brandrup was the 2011 President of the American Institute of Architects – El Paso chapter, served on the El Paso Historic Landmark Commission, and is a member of the United States Green Building Council – Chihuahuan Desert Chapter. Currently she is serving on the City Planning Commission in El Paso. She is also on the Board of Advisors for Tulane University, School of Architecture where she received both a Bachelor and Masters of Architecture. As a founding member of the Non-Profit Eco El Paso she has been a huge proponent for green building and sustainable design in the El Paso community.

Ms. Brandrup has received the 2011 Texas Society of Architecture Honor Award for Young Professional Achievement (in honor of William W. Caudill, FAIA). This is the first time an architect from El Paso has been awarded this statewide honor. The award recognizes the leadership efforts of a younger member who serves their profession, influences improvements in the field, and encourages participation of others. In El Paso, Ms. Brandrup continues to help integrate architecture, planning and sustainability to enhance our built environment.
